What are the travel directions to the Inn?

From North, Hampton Roads, Richmond, Northern VA, DC, MD, NJ, NY:

From the Norfolk area take Rt. 168 from Chesapeake. Rt. 168 merges and becomes Rt. 158. Stay on 158 until you cross over the Wright Memorial Bridge. Take Rt. 12 North. Stay on Rt. 12 until you enter the Corolla Light Resort, the Inn will be on your left. (Don't worry if you miss the Inn, the paved road ends within 2 miles).

From West, Raleigh-Durham, Winston Salem, Greensboro, Charlotte:

Take Rt. 64 east into Manteo, NC. Once on the island take Rt. 158 north (the by-pass). Take Rt. 12 north (do not cross back over the sound) and follow direction to Corolla from above.

For more complete directions, please request a fax from the Inn with directions. Complete directions are sent with reservation confirmations.

What are driving times?

From Washington, DC about 5 hours.
From Raleigh-Durham about 4 hours.
From Richmond about 3 hours.
From Norfolk, about 2 hours.

What is the distance from the Nags Head-Kitty Hawk area?

When you turn onto Rt. 12 off Rt. 158, it is approximately 22 miles

Is the Inn a Bed and Breakfast?

Well, not really (especially since each room has its own bathroom). Think of it as a classic waterfront hotel or inn.

Does the Inn allow pets?

The Inn now offers limited pet friendly rooms for dogs under 50 lbs.  There is a $25 per night pet fee, pet friendly rooms include Rooms 28, 29, 30, 31, 32 and 33.

What are the check-in and checkout times?

Check in is 4:00pm and check out is 11:00am. In summer, many of our quests will check out by 11:00am, but keep their arm bands that allow them access to Corolla Light's facilities, so that they can enjoy a full day at the beach.  The Indoor Sports Center at the resort has shower facilities guests may use after check-out.

Do you give AARP or AAA discounts?

We give ten (10%) discount for AARP members, please call for details.

Do you have honeymoon and romance packages?

These are our specialty!  Click here to see our current packages.

Do you have 2-room suites available?

We have a few two-room suites and many rooms that adjoin one another with connecting doors. (Please see "Detailed Room Descriptions").

Can the Inn accommodate weddings, receptions, reunions and meetings?

Yes, and we've done them all, from small intimate weddings in our pier gazebo, to family and college reunions at the pool. Generally, 30-40 sit-down guests are the most we can handle in our reception/dining area. There's probably no more romantic place to be married than at the Inn, or the Whalehead Club, the Lighthouse or even on the beach. In addition, there is a turn-of-the-century chapel located close by that many couples have used to tie the knot (but reserve early....it stays booked up). In addition, the Inn has an on-site consultant to help with wedding and honeymoon plans.

What types of payments does the Inn accept?

We prefer Visa credit cards but will accept Discover and Master Card. A deposit to a major credit card must accompany reservations. The balance may be paid by cash at check-in. We do not accept checks for deposits or for the balance of deposits.

What's is your policy on refunds for cancellations and hurricanes?

New  "No Worry" Hurricane Policy:  Changes or cancellations made prior to seven (7) days of arrival are subject to a $45.00 accounting fee. Changes, cancellations, no-shows and/or early departures within seven (7) days of arrival are non-refundable.

How far away are the ocean and those wonderful beaches we've heard about?

Actual distance to the ocean is about 1/4 mile, but most guests will take one of the Inn's complimentary bikes and bike over to Corolla Light's oceanfront complex. In addition, Corolla Light has open-air trolleys that it operates during summer and most of the spring and fall that will take guests anywhere within the resort.

How far away is the Corolla Resort Indoor Sports Complex?

It is only two blocks away. Again, many guests take a bike or the trolley over (after all, you are on vacation).  The resort complex features Olympic pools, a huge hot tub, two clay tennis courts, racquetball, wolleyball, workout room, saunas, table tennis, and video game machines. The Sports Center charges a nominal fee for use of indoor tennis courts, towels, racquets and balls, etc.

How far are the Whalehead Club and the Lighthouse?

Just a little ways up the soundfront.  Since this is outside Corolla Light Resort (just barely outside), there isn't any trolley service. Most guests walk or bike along the nature and bike trails.

Is there kayaking and watersports close by?

In the summer the Inn operates wave runners, jetskis, fishing, crabbing, and other water sports from its pier. In addition, in the spring, summer and fall there are kayaking and eco-tours.

Is golf nearby?

Within minutes of the Inn is a championship golf course (voted one of the 10 best new golf courses in the country). Many other courses are located in the Nags Head area or on the Currituck mainland.

How good is the fishing?

Surf fishing is OK most of the year and best in the fall. If you want to go Deep Sea fishing; that is available in Nags Head (about an hour away) or, of course, Hatteras (about two hours away). Fishing in the Sound is not very good, unless you have a guide. If you want to go deep sea fishing, it is best to book these trips well in advance. Some of the Captains have strange policies about credit cards, checks and cash so shop early.

What about restaurants and shopping?

Located within the Resort of Corolla Light are shops and restaurants. Within minutes are more shops and restaurants, and still more are located in Duck (about 10 miles away).

What else is there to do in the area?

Bird watching, hang gliding, historical and wild horse tours, Wright Brothers Memorial, Elizabethan Gardens, surfing, and more. You would have to take a vacation from your vacation if you tried to do all the things available to do.

Does the Inn handle house or condo rentals?

Yes, the Inn offers several beautiful rental homes and a 3 bedroom oceanside condo.  Availability is limited with these properties, so it is wise to reserve them in advance for the best seasonal selection.

What happened to the wild horses that used to roam Corolla?

They've been moved north into the area only accessible by four-wheel drive vehicles. Bob's son, Bob, Jr. offer tours to the Inn's guests and visitors.
(See Bob's Wild Horse Adventure Tours)
